On Tuesday evening 12 teams and 48 drivers made up of YAS staff, family and friends descended on Leeds to take part in the Fourth annual #KART4LIFE charity endurance race.
A 4-hour non-stop relay race held at Yorkshire’s longest indoor karting venue and in aid of the fantastic Yorkshire Ambulance Service Charity.
The race started just after 8pm with all 12 teams launching off the line and instantly battling for position. Team Honley took an early lead before being caught by EMAS, The Kart4Life Crew and the Bradford Bandits, with the lead changed hands between them. By lap 37 the Bandits took the lead and built up a lead of 10 seconds by the first pitstops and driver changes. Over the course of the first two hours the order settled down with numerous teams setting increasingly competitive times.
By Lap 80 The Kart4Life Crew had closed the gap and snatched the lead, streaking away into the distance. The pace of the Bradford Bandits was not to be underestimated however, and they found a way through the pack before hunting down the leaders, catching up with 20 minutes to go. The final 15 mins saw an intense battle for the lead, with the leaders defending as if their life depended on it, doing everything possible to prevent a hat-trick of wins for the Bandits. With 4 minutes left on the stopwatch the Bandit’s driver Kev Singh pounced as the Kart4Life Crew driver ran wide on worn tyres and snatched the lead, taking the chequered flag!
The top 5 positions were as follows:
1) Bradford Bandits
2) The Kart4Life Crew
3) EMAS
4) Kartiac Arrest
5) 2 Furious
Bradford Bandits Kevin Singh also claimed the plaudits for the event’s fastest lap with a 40.166!
A huge thank you to everyone that braved the cold to take part and supported the on-track action, a special mention to our friends over at EMAS for joining us and putting up a great fight. We have our public KART4LIFE event next week and between the two events we are optimistic of hitting our fundraising target of £3000 from this event!
We will return next year.
